In the Hobbies and Crafts section of Marvel I looked up "Rug Hooking". I really enjoy hooking rugs. I can't crochet and knit so hooking rugs is the closest I'll come to working with yarn!!!
I even taught my co-worker how to hook rugs, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. We call ourselves
"Winslow's Happy Hookers" !!! LOL
Unfortunatley, our Library does not subscribe to any periodicals about Rug Hooking. I'm sure that
if patrons showed interest, it might be something our Director would consider ordering.
There were several options of rug designs on the "Projects" tab, but I was dissappointed that there
were no pictures of the designs. I like to SEE what the choices are, not just READ about them.
I would download several of the designs to do for myself.
The "Help" link would be very helpful to patrons. It offers periodicals, videos, and books
covering 140 topics. There is a 24/7 suport site with technicians to answer any questions a
patron might have. You can also phone or e-mail support Reps with any questions.
I REALLY enjoyed this weeks lesson. Gave my brain a breather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lesson #3
Lesson #3 is to check out the Newspapers and Maine Newstand in Marvel.
I did a search on Flu Clinics. I found out that Hannaford Supermarkets abruptly canceled remaining flu shots due to the shortage of vaccine available. Many people had to wait in long lines for hours
only to be turned away. Many of the crowds got unruly.
More that 500 people showed up at the Yarmouth store, twice as many as the number of doses available. Five to six times the number of people showed up at some clinics, some 8 hours in advance of the store opening.
The good news is that 17,000 doses will be shipped to the states soon.
The informations I found was very informative. Patrons will be able to get plenty of information
on anything they chose to research. The Maine newstand section has articles from Maine in the past
to anything happening in Maine in the future.
Now that my brain is totally fried.....I look forward to the next phase!!!

For week 2 I did Lesson 2a and looked up a mammel. I looked up Humpback whales.
What I discovered in the Elementary level, there was quite alot information about whales, the information was very easy to read and understand. They used simple terms to describe about whales and their habits.
At the middle school level I found Britannica starting to use more complex terms, and also starts
to use the scientific names of the whales. The facts are alot more detailed
At the High school level I looked up Germany. On the right side column there were additional contents where you could find journals and magazine articles about Germany. It also offered
Web sites that gave you more information. There were primary sources such as books and e-books
about Germany and it's history. Earlier maps of Germany showing how the country had been
divided from 1914-1990. There was also a link to hear Germany's national anthem.
I also found the the "Workspace" could be very useful to students and teachers. One feature of workspace would allow for articles that the person is interested in to be organized and saved for future use.
Hope you found this blog to be aleast a LITTLE intersting!!
